Re: Suggestions for new posters

I didn't know where to log this in and this seemed like the best place.

Thank You Thank You Thank You Thank You

I just can't say it enough... I've only had to ask a single question so far but I've had a life time of education on boats, motors, and being an informed boat owner, just by reading the daily posts here. Because of the information I've gained here, I spend more time on the water enjoying my boat, then I do at the dock, working on it.
So again Thanks. :D

I have a 1974 221/2 ft fiberform with a V-8 225 OMC outdrive. With the engine at idle, 900 rpm, the eng. temp is fine! But however, when at above 1200 rpm the eng starts to everheat. The pump belt is tight a water intakes are clear. I have only 708 hours on the boat. What could the problem be that causes it to overheat?

I know that here in Kansas City, you cannot get one ounce of information, or even ask someone about outboards for free. They only want to sell you something, or have you bring it in for them to work on.

I really like this forum, and I like to pick the experts brains! H*ll is's free! I too have made a couple of mistakes, but I do read a lot of previous threads before I ask a question. You folks keep up the excellent work you do here. I know electrical and electronics very well, and if I have an answer for someone, I'll be glad to give them my two cents worth, cause I will get it back more times than ever....

I'm done ranting... :p

Re: Suggestions for new posters

I am new to the Forum and have been reading the postings. I have a 1987 SPL 88 Horsepower V-4 Evinrude outboard Motor. I just bought a Seloc manual for 60 thru 235 horsepwoer Johnson/Evinrude 1973 thru 1991. I hope this will be a good manual for me. I want to replace the water pump and Impellar. It worked good last year. I had plenty of water comming out of the tale-tale. I just bought this boat last year June 2004. I only ran it for about a week and a half until I had to go to school for the air Force. I am stationed at Scott AFB Illinois and want to take it out to the lake when it warms up. My brother watched it for me and ran it a couple of times without water to her just enough to slightly get her warm. I am only worried the impeller is bad, but not sure. Any help would be helpful.

Re: Suggestions for new posters

I just wanted to add a couple things.

The internet is an amazing tool. I would encourage folks that are new to forums to search out other forums for their other interests as well. Believe it or not there is probably a forum for almost any interest that you might have and they are one of the most useful resources that someone can use at home. The rules pretty much apply all across the board, 1. do your homework and research using the search function 2. be respectful and appreciative 3. try to contribute to the forum and not just come here for answers to your problems.

When you search for the answers to your problems you will likely get far more information alot quicker than when you start your own topic. I find that if I have generally spent a couple hours searching I usually find answers to most of my questions and learn a whole lot more than I had been looking for. Then if I still can't find the specific answer I will start up a thread which will usually be alot more narrowed down to the specific problem I have.

Lastly, I am very new here and it seems to me that this forum has more seasoned SME's (Subject Matter Experts) than most of the other types of forums that I take part in, and I would like to say thanks and that you guys all rock. I look forward to being an Iboater for a long time. Laters.
