wow.. that's a lot of work. :D I'm just drilling screwing straight into that wood. You used SS screws, right? I'm doing interior LED cabin lights too about the seats and maybe in the ski locker and bow... They have "water resistant" ones at autozone meant for the outside of your car... cheap.

How long does it take you to get the rewiring job done? I have an 78 grady white and i'm looking to rewire as well because the wiring was a mess from the previous owner and my fuel gage isn't working anymore.

Re: Suggestions for Re-Wiring

I'm bringing back this old thread. It's mine so, that's ok. The wood was pressure treated 1-by and many of the blocks are starting to split. It's not big deal, I put enough in there that I can lose a bunch without the wires starting to hang. But every once in a while I do have to re-glue a few, and now replace some that popped in half. So the question is........

I like the idea of using a plastic that will last forever. Cutting up a cutting board seems clever, but they're actually kind of expensive. What about just getting a single 1x4x8' of trex (fake wood) or something like that, and cutting it up? Will that work well?

Re: Suggestions for Re-Wiring

I wonder if you're over-thinking it... I just finished working on my 15 year old boat's wiring, and it was fastened to blocks under the gunwhales with what looks to be plain, untreated, unpainted plywood, epoxied to the rough side of the fiberglass. Even after 15 years, the wood is in really good shape. I figured that if enough moisture was getting up there to rot the wood, I had bigger problems than wood rot. I added some additional blocks of Aurauco plywood and PC-11 epoxied them in place.

I'd be worried about the adhesion using Trex or cutting board or some similar plastic. Did you have problems with the previous attachment blocks rotting away?

Your work is very nice, by the way. Neatly done and well thought out.

The PVC 1x4 boards arent too expensive at lowes. You could cut to size, rough them up and I think some epoxy PB would hold them much better than 5200.
