I have about $400 to spend on a trolling motor, any suggestions? Looking for a bow mount with sonar maybe.

i think these are a bit more $, but well worth it. See if u can find a slightly used model so that it will fit your budget, maybe ebay. I think they normally go about 600 new. It is a minn kota riptide 78lb thrust, with the remote control. My buddy had 1 on his 21 nauticstar, and it moved that boat very well, plus u can control it from anywhere in the boat, by zip tying the remote to your favorite pole. U can also by extra holders for the remote and put 1 on all ur poles if u wish. Seems a little luxurious, (which it is), but is well well well worth the extra $$.

If you stay with 12V, MinnKota PD 55 (55# thrust) may be available but not with the built in sonar. You don't mention how big your boat is so that will determine if you need a 12 or 24V motor. The 24V motors will be out of your $400 range unless you buy used. I would recommend you steer clear of any of the radio controlled (RF) motors. They are nothing but expensive, battery eating, trouble. Been there - done that.

what are you going to use it for, power trolling? creeping around shallow flats? With your size boat a 36#-55# 12V would be plenty for anywhere from creeping to slow trolling (up to 2mph), you will need a 24V unit for trolling for big game like Northern/Muskee.

A Minnkota 55PD will work fine on your boat. Electric steer and the cable is long enough to operate from anywhere in the boat.

Are you still looking for a trolling motor?

I have a Motor Guide Freshwater 71# Digital Trolling motor Model: FW71 FB Digital

It retails for right around $600, Mine is used for about 6 months. It has some scuffs from normal wear under water, but operationally is 100%. It is also still under warrenty.

I would be willing to sell it for $400 + Shipping. It came with my boat, but I am actually looking to get a Minn Kota PowerDrive with AutoPilot due to the type of fishing, and the waters I fish on.

Let me know if your interested.

A Minnkota 55PD is the largest 12V motor in the line. Anything bigger is 24 volt. Use the largest capacity deep cycle battery you have room for and install an on-board charger. Your engine will not keep the trolling battery charged unless you run wide open for hours..
