I should mention that when I filled the boat with water I had it in reverse to hold my position against the wind and waves while I caught bait off the bow. A bad idea, but I was alone and near the beach. I would never ever do that far from shore. The thought of it gives me a chill.

My new boat has an open transom also. I take it out 30 miles at night. It is terrible about water getting in over the transom in rough seas. Its foam filled and the book says it won't sink but I'm adding a polymer sheet around the engine and sealing the splash guard. It's not a pleasant feeling to have ankle deep water in your boat in the middle of nowhere.

i bought the boat and cracked one of the axles on the way home.. now im torn between fixing both axles (if one went, the other is bound to as well) or buying a new goddamned trailer.

the engine runs like a champ though. i have some wiring / power / fuse issues to iron out (bilge pump and nav lights arent working) before i get her in the water.

Just replace the axles and go for disk brakes while you are at it.

i'm going to convert it to a single axle trailer... i dont need a tandem - the boat isnt all that heavy.

finally found a trailer place that wont rip me off for repairs... Both axles, springs, hubs, 2 new brakes, and load equalizers with labor for about $750. The previous place had quoted me over 700$ for *one* axle with no brakes. ONE.

gonna keep the existing tandem axle ez-loader.
