Hello to all of you people of knowledge and boating itch-pain.When summerising the mid -nineties 3.0 liter OMC Cobra performed perfectly on muffs. Then in the lake (salt water)when put on load it started heating up and when the temperature reached 180 I switched it off and paddled to the slip.Took the boat off the water on the trailer and started in on muffs again -the temperature started to descend, but still some steam came out along from the outdrive with some hot water.Unfortunately at that moment the starter defected so I couldn`t continue with my observations. My first guess is that the impeller has gone south and since I don`t have any info from the previous owner or maintenance records,I want to ask you if you can link me to an on-line info about how should the outdrive impeller be changed .Thank you!

on the top of the outdrive there is a plastic cover (painted to match). remove it, next you will see the impeller housing cover, remove it and replace the impeller.. the cobra outdrive does NOT need to come off when replacing the impeller.

Re: Summerizing issue

You might want to describe "Mid Ninties" from 90 to 93, the OMC Cobra was the drive used and it had the water pump in the outdrive. Then in 94 to 98, Volvo and OMC went into a joint venture they still called the drive a Cobra. The drive LOOKED like the older OMC Cobra, but the insides were completely changed and the raw water pump was no longer in the drive but engine mointed.
