I want to do as much DIY so I can learn more about my boat.

I bought the Mercrusier SELOC book and it doesn't tell you a thing about an oil change.

So I bought a hand oil pump, ran the engine and heated it up, let it cool for a few mins, and put the line in the dipstick hole and pumped oil out. It took over 45 minutes and I only got about 3 Quarts and sounds like there is 6 in there.

Doing something wrong? Crappy pump? I have some aquarium tubing and going to extend the line; i have a feeling it didn't hit the oil pan all the way down and that might help.

Anyone done an oil change on their boat want to share some info :) ? Also the filter, something seemed like it was in the way or my wrench is just a tad bit smaller.

Could not find an oil drain plug for the life of me .. i think that would have made it 10x easier.

Sorry for the novel :) I searched and didn't see much. Hopefully this helps someone else out too when it gets archived.

Did you check the oil level before you started sucking ot out? You may have been 3 qts low. Also did you push the hose in far enough, or to far?
I have never used one but, I would think that there is a sweet spot on how far to put the hose on so you get the most out. As i said in have never used one but if the hose fits in the dipstick hole then its really small and it could take hours to get it all out.
I be reading to see how things turn out. Good luck!!

Get the electric pump for like $30.......
As stated, always check the level of what you want to pump out & you'll know what to expect.....;)

your drain plug should be in the middle of the pan aft end.
