OK......Storms came threw this weekend and some how my boat lift broke and my boat fell into the lake and is sunk!!!!!!!
Not sure how bad yet and I DO NOT have any pics, how will I get it out of the water and if I DO will it ever be any good?

It is a 1993 20FT Stingray Bow Rider.........either way I have enjoyed this boat to the fullest and maybe it is time to upgrade.

Any advise would be nice

Re: Sunken Boat

Is it completely sunk to the bottom?... or is it just sunk up to the gunwales and still kinda floating?

Re: Sunken Boat

if its in a lake......it might be ok....depends on the damage....

the second you pull it out of the water.....i mean the second......pull the plugs....turn the motor over by hand, get the water out of the holes.....and spray fogging oil in the holes.

drain the oil and all fluids....and replace.....

wipe out the distributor cap

from a gas can to the fuel pump...try and start the motor.....or at least get the new fluid running thru the motor

now the motor is at least pickled.....now you can examine the rest of the hull. and electronics for damage.....if you have an ecu on the boat.....take it off and shake it.....if it has water in side.....open it up and drain the water....let it dry.

open every hatch every thing that can be opened on the boat.....take a big fan...and turn it on....let it dry out totally

Re: Sunken Boat

How far thru the air did it fall? Did the hull crack on impact? I would think you should prepare for a hull breech of some kind, since it sunk. Maybe it didn't happen....

To get it out or on top of the water get some ropes and make sure the gunnels are above the water.

Get some pumps or some 5 gallon buckets and start bailing.
It should start to float as long as you have it raised enough that water isn't coming in.

Call your insurance company to check coverage, then maybe salvage or replace boat. Good Luck! Like you say, maybe time for a new boat!

Re: Sunken Boat

as far as getting it out of the water....get the boat till it is floating on the flotation foam....up to the gunnels.....then start pumping the water out....you will need a good gas pump or lots of people with 5 gal buckets....as soon as you get the level below the gunnwhales....you have allmost won....just keep bailing till she floats again....

if you are angled down....or stern heavy....place a big tire tube under the low point....and pump up the tire.......this will get you up to the gunwhales.
then start the pumping procedure.

If you didn't have a specific boat policy, and this was at your summer home, camp, etc, check with your property insurance. Might have some coverage.

Ouch.. Once you get it floating again sell it on CraigsList and quote "worked great last time I took it out."

To add to what others have said, once it's on the trailer and you are ready to dry it out, get the nose up as high as you can. I would stack a few cinder blocks under the jack and crank it up as high as you can get it.

fwiw I've owned several boats that had been sunk in fresh water.... all were great boats.... yes there was some work involved but all is not lost the instant water touches the inside.... good luck

A couple of liftbags, or lift pillows + scuba compressed gas/compressor can do wonders lifting the stern section to the surface to the point where you can get it towed in. http://www.subsalve.com/
