Another thread reminded me of an incident i had this summer....

My uncle lives on a lake up in the great northwoods of Wisconsin. This year I went up there in the earliest part of summer; before weeds are grown. I had never been there this early before. The name of the lake is Circle Lilly lake, and named so because in the middle of it there is a sunken island with a ring of lilly pads at its edge. on one edge it comes up shallow enough that there is a bush that grows there amd the rest of it comprises an area that is 200ft long by 100ft wide that is shallow enough that you can sit out there with a lawn chair. The lake goes from 50 ft deep up to the 6inches deep above the island in a very short distance. this is great for fishing obviously so i spend most iof my time there. I get in my little 12ft rowboat with an old 5hp evinrude fisherman......now i usually can tell when i get close to the island based of the circle of pads and cabbage weeds in the 4- 10ft water right before the island, but remember i have never been there early enough for there to be no weeds or pads. so im going as fast as this little boat can go and i can see the bush at the one end, and im looking in the water to see if i can see bottom.......its sunny there is a lot of glare. needless to say i plowed into the island at full speed. to make things worse both oars i had broke in half as i was trying to push my self off, and i dropped my phone in the lake in the process. i had to get out of the boat push my self off and then get in the boat and start it before the wind could blow me back up onto the sunken island.....

Best part is that my dad was watching the whole thing from my uncles yard. when i got back to the house all he said was "What, did you forget there was a big island out there or what?" man i felt dumb.
