super high idle?!!

hey guys, I just got a 1972 125 johnny. It starts brilliantly every time first time, but it idles really high. The throttle linkage is as far back as it can go and it still is idling at around 2600. It was in storage for a while and I've done a few minor things, plugs, sea foam, change oil, that sort of thing. But this idle is driving me up the wall. How would one adjust the idle down to normal spec? any help would do, thanks alot .

If it is idling this high on muffs then it will drop when it is in the water. If it is already in the water do a search for carb adjustment and read Joe Reeves thread on this. Post back.

A couple of things --

1- is the timer base moving all the way back or is it stuck forward?

2- This may sound silly but...when it starts is it running backwards? (the flywheel should be turning clockwise)

timer base is all the way as far back as she can go, and the flywheel is turning clock wise.

Does it idle high with the throttle cable disconnected?

Is the throttle arm back aginst the stop? Is the stop screw out about halfway?

it idles high no matter if the cable is connected or not it doesn't make any difference, and I'm pretty sure as in 99%, that the throttle arm is against the stop, I'd have to take a quick glance at it again. The top screw is just under about half way out.
