Re: Super Seahorse V 75

After doing some research after that post I am going to disagree. According to the parts people there were both in the 60 model 75 horse. This one has a distributor run by a fan belt off the flywheel. The coil, rotor and all the other ignition parts are under the dist cap. I think this one is a battery ignition.

could be wrong though. I will have to wait to get the manual. Seems some of these had a belt drive magneto. Don't know for sure on this one.

The battery ignition did not come out till 1961, and then you could get it either way. The magneto system has the belt pulley on top with the distributor cap hanging downward. The battery ignition has the distributor cap on top. If it is a 1960, it is magneto. Unless somebody changed it.

you're probably right. good thing I found out before ordering parts for the wrong motor. I would imagine at least the coil is bad.

On the old magneto ignitions they grounded out to kill it and if I unhook the plug in I should get a spark if all is okay.

Correct. Or, you can disconnect the small black wire at the side of the magneto. That would be the one going to the plug-in, the other, short one goes to the breaker plate/points which obviously needs to be connected.

Re: Super Seahorse V 75 update

It's been a while since my last post simply because we have not worked on it. I cleaned the points and got good spark on it. Over this last winter pulled the lower unit apart and put new seals in it as well as a new impeller. Replaced all the hoses and fired it up in a barrel. (note to self don't put it in gear again. a 75 hp empties the barrel quick) did some adjustments on it and it is running good if we can get the boat finished.
