Re: Super shallow ramp

There are a lot of theories out there, all possible. I wonder if anyone knows how to find out where the problem actually originated and what a poor boat owner can do to get it fixed.

For example, if the Army Corp. of Engineers has authority how do you check with them to find out what the specifications were and who was the contractor.

If the specs are good then is the contractor liable?
Looking for good suggestions on a step by step process.

around here I heard lots about ramps being put in improperly as well. it was usually bass boat trailers getting hung up. I believe all you can do is make a complaint and hope enough others do the same and a correction is made.

I guess it is just my inner self that hates it when the little guy (us) feels helpless when faced with the big machine. Principles.

My thought is that if the Army Corp. of engineers contracted the work it certainly has standards. Raising a complaint may lead them to go back to the contractor.

May be tilting at windmills but you have to at least make a stab.

What will most likely happen is that someone will get tired of having to launch around the bad ramp and just rip it out one night. That will most likely happen long before the state or anyone else fixes it. Especially in this economy.
The ramp isn't poured in place, it's just a series of slabs laid in place. Maybe they figured that those in the water would eventually sink lower with time?
The might have happened if it it were a lake large enough to actually take some bigger boats but here with our electric only rule, that will never happen.
I did consider the fact that the ramp is so close to the surface that it could have been lifted by frost heaving since it was installed, that lake has frozen a few times this winter, and the edges freeze pretty solid. (The ramp was still ice covered when I was there last week).
