Heh... you'd have to violate a few laws of physics to get enough energy to charge the batteries that way.
Electric boats are limited by the same things electric cars are... no way to easily carry that kind of battery power around without a ton of weight, no way to recharge the batteries without an onboard nuclear reactor.
The torque of an electric motor would be nice, especially in a pair of azipods for maneuvering. I'd like to see those made for smaller boats, along with a generator/motor set up running diesel to provide power.
As much as we complain about the price, gasoline is a heck of a good fuel for boating... it's relatively light, packs a lot of power in a small space, and doesn't require hyper complicated engines to use.
Myself, I think biodiesel is the way to go for boats... it's too bad there aren't many diesel sterndrives around.
