Hello all,

Which hole should this support rod be placed in? 18.5 Skeeter 150 Evinrude.
It was in this position when I purchased it, should I move it out?

Thanks in advance!

Depends on the angle of the transom. Usually the cavation plate on the motor should be in line with the keel of the boat as a starting point. You can move the pin up or down depending if the bow plows or porposes.

you have the trim feature, then the rod possition is really only the "bottom" end of trim travel. From that point on you can "trim up" the motor. Unless you experence poor stabilty at high speed, I wouldn't move it "up", if anything it might have to go "down" (towards the transom).

theoretically, you shouldnt need the rod because you have hydraulic TNT...

and many people have guages to see where their trim is at any moment...others just observe how the boat is handling...bow up or down or if any porposing..and adjust till they like what the feel and see.

I have this theory that I should find a calm water setting for the ideal trim and set the pin as close to that as possible..

then I only have to drive the trim down till it hits home when i am in calm water conditions and i know ill be were i should be...but....

a boat is dynamic...different load one day, more people more gear stationary some place in the boat new!! and the trim setting might change...

I think it is seldom you would need to force your bow LOWER than normal...

but i realize that cetain boat-motor combos may need substantially more or less trim thatn usual..thus the many different holes..

on my 1995 115 hp ocean runner.. there are TWO rows of pins so I have increments half the change than if just a single row of holes...!!!

I have found that once on plane if i trim OUT 3 seconds of botton pressure from all the way in...i get the fastest speed!!!!

but I think leaving it all the way in till I get on plane ...allows me to get on plane faster, than if i was trimmed out to final from the start!!

play with it and learn whats best for you...

here is a pix of the double row of holes on my motor:
