Surge Brake Cap Leaks

I just got a used boat trailer with surge brakes. Never had em before so it's a new experience. The reservoir was empty so I filled it up and bled the brakes. It's an older trailer (86) and I think somebody converted it to disc brakes. They seem to work fine now but I'm getting leaking fluid around the reservoir cap. There is a little hole in the side of the cap that looks like it's supposed to be there and I think this is where the fluid is coming from. Isen't the system under pressure? Am I just overfilling the reservoir? thanks for your comments.

Fluid should be within 1/2" of the top. If you overfill it will exit thru the vent hole. You can either remove some of the fluid or wait until it stops "leaking", check the resulting level and that will be where you keep it topped out to.

Obviously, if it completely drains then there is a leak somewhere in the system.

Ayuh,... The reservoir is vented to the atmosphere, beyond the reservoir, is where the pressure comes into play....

Lower the level in the reservoir, 'n it should stop leakin'....
