Hey guys. i disconnected my surge brakes because they always locked up, and my pop up is light, so it tows real easy. Can i move the locking pin to the reverse mode, and put a bolt behind it to lock it in place? Right now it still wants to move when i go forward or reverse and makes a noise because the brakes are inactive. Anyone ever doen somtething like this? Here is a pic showing the locking pin. i plan to set it in reverse and put the bolt right behind it so it doesn't pop out.

Thanks

Re: surge brake help

You possibly could, but , if the trailer came with brakes by law they have to work. Should anything happen while towing and it comes that the brakes were inoperative on the trailer and you are in the wrong, your liability goes way up for any damages and or injuries. Your best bet is fix the brakes so they work properly and help you stop when towing.

Re: surge brake help

Probably would, just be careful, stay way back from everybody so you have plenty of time to stop if they slam the brakes on in front of you.

Re: surge brake help

i will. It is only a 12' pop up camper. Tows fine without brakes. Ill probably end up putting electric on her. Surge brakes are horrible in my experience with them.
