Just removed a Muncie 4sp transmission from a 65 Corvette. Thic car had been sitting for a few years before the Boss bought it and it had a bad vibatipon in it and found it to be the yolk and tailshaft bushing! The insides were very black and gummed up so I tore the whole thing down to clean and inspect! Its a good thing I did as its hard to imagine the damage I found from just sitting!

Counter shaft rusted and pitted (Replaced)
Needle bearings for same shot (Replaced)
Countershaft gear cluster pitted inside (Replaced)
One shift collar shot (Replaced)
Both main bearings rough, pitted (Replaced)
Mainshaft main bearings shot (Replaced)
All syncroes (replaced)

You just do not think about how hard it is for equipment to set around! I do, but most dont!

The thing about it is that the transmision shifted fine and never jumped out of gear or had any strange noises, but then these cars arent quiet enough to hear noises! This transmission wouldnt have made it ahundred miles though with out catistrofic results! Oh, had the original gearlube in it too, NO drain plug! Go figure! Anyone interested in some "original 1965 Corvette trans lube??

Lubedude your job sounds a lot like what my pop did at his job. He worked on heavy equipment for a huge contractor but 1/2 of his time was spent restoring cars for the boss.

He went through all the same kind of things you are when he would rip into a project. Funny thing was after they were done then owner would park em in his massive temp controlled pole barn. Then they would just sit for years.

Pop restored an old farm tractor for the guy, the thing was really rough and needed some big bucks spent on it. Pop poured his heart and sole into it like he did all his work. The thing was better than new when it was done. What did the boss do with it??? He parked it outside his office complex and there it sat for years on display out in the weather. I think it killed pop every time he saw it sittin there.

He had all kinds of cars Every thing from muscle cars like AC cobra,s to the most rare antique rides you could imagine. I have heard he has started to collect old MC's now.

I keep a log and try to drive these cars at least 20 or so miles a month! :D Boss does drive em once in a while, he likes to see them in front of the Law Office! He likes the exotics,( Ferarri, Porsche, Mercedes)! I like the American Muscle, (Ford Starliner, Corvettes)!
