Our quest to resolve 2'-itis is nearly complete. This 10' longer boat (http://www.erwinmarinesales.com/Pag...ils/1990-Carver-Sport-Cruiser-32-Montego.aspx) has "everything" we think we want. Survey scheduled for Wednesday, then the water trial by our surveyor shortly after (a day or so later?). If all checks out well, we'll be taking her up the lake to our marina; some 10 or so miles up the lake (river).

Hoping everything goes well! She really is a beauty for her age!!!!!!

Nice! No stern drives. I'm not sure why some many bigger boats used them. Hope the sea trial goes well.

As long as the waters you boat on are not shallow, and you never beach your boat, the V-drives will be fine. Less performance than sterndrives, but also less maintenance. Hope it goes well.

Thanks, everyone!

At this point, I wanted the inboards to reduce the maintenance on outdrives (and winterization). Have to get a bilge heater for winter, still.

The only beaching spot we ever go (went) to has a significant slope. Not sure we'll use it there, though. Lots of wake entering the mini cove we used to love, back in the day...

Good luck Robb. Always liked Carvers. Interiors were always very roomy w/ different layouts.

Everything checked out. It's a 24 year old vessel, so there are a few things we get to inherit. Got to go WOT during the trial, which only got to 4K rpm, engines rated for 4,400, so a prop change might be in order this fall.

Yes, we are very excited about this boat, our friend and surveyor feels this is a great deal; nothing to stop the progress of closing moving forward. Closing on Friday and moving it to our marina that evening.

Will be asking many questions and probably looking for a Chilton's before too long.

Maybe you can find some RPM with a clean bottom, weight distribution, tune, ect before you spring for props. I like that boat and am glad it's a keeper!

All very good input and Thank you! Really getting excited about this purchase....

Having their previous survey, It was the same max rpm at WOT in '09. Our Trial yesterday was with a just-now pressure washed hull and vessel pretty empty, just 4 of us. There are plenty of other items higher up the list I'll probably tackle as I can afford before looking into props. As with most boats of this age, there will always be something needs adjusting/correcting/replacing, etc, but can't do it all at once.

If your pulling 4000 grand then it's probably slow and laboring coming up on plane. If it runs about right then throw a tach on the engine and make sure your dash board tachs are calibrated. Some tachs have a selector switch for engine types like outboards or number of cylinders. They also have a screw to dial them in once the selector is set. Always check your tachs first. You can't trust the installer. I just fixed one that was set wrong since 1983. My first clue was the fine selection of wrong props that came with the boat. I hope it's that simple and it's worth a shot.

Good thinking... It is certainly something I will look into when it's time to tackle it.

Thanks again!

Really a sharp looking classic lined looking boat. What body of water will she call home? If Cumberland, that boat will be really enjoyable, heck it will be enjoyable anywhere! Seems it's been well cared for, and has most of the expensive ad-ons that can end up breaking the bank if you had to go buy all new stuff. Here's a toast to happy boating in your future. What did you sell to upgrade to this?

TN River, Chickamauga Lake, primarily. Just finished our first weekend on the water, and yes, this is the boat for us (at this time). We sold our 22' Cuddy today, so you may have an idea of the step we just made.
