Okay, being green to Iboats and enjoying all the wealth of info. Here's my question. How long on average does it take to finish a deck, stringer, transom job? I'm working on a 19' fiberglass bowrider. And like so many others the more I tare up,.... well the more I end up taring out. I figure I've gone this far want to do the job right and enjoy the boat......eventually. Just curious what your experiences have been. By the way, i've done enough taring out to learn to hate fiberglass, will the itch never end!

i did a complete rebuild in 3 weeks, stripped hull to water. i've also taken 6 months. set an outline what has to be done, then break it down to small task, then you will see the progress, and not get discouraged. i just drug one home today.

Thats a good idea, I've ordered in the supplies I need (that I know about this far) so I don't have anything slowing me up. Right now its an after work project, but I have a couple weeks off coming up and I wanted to get it knocked out then. I have pictures I'll post along the way, or sooner if I get stumped.

Re: survey.. how long to finish

I'm planning on allowing 2 months, I'm ok with glassing but not experienced with boats. But I plan on a complete deck ripout from the get go rather than pecking at it only to find more rot ....bit by bit.

My mechanic quoted me $1100 for balljoints in my E350, I did it for $150, he quoted 6 hrs, it took me almost 3 days.

I expect it will be the same with the boat simply because its my first time around.

Just get cheap ($15) disposeable tyvek suits (zippered with hood) to keep the fibres off you.

A 4" Hilti diamond masonry steel disc might produce less dust than a grinding disc for quick removal. I made a lot of fiberglass molds, and used these discs with sucess. They cut like a hot knife in butter.

If you have airtools, check this out, make glass cutter blades for pennies from hacksaws.
Notice the lack of dust when cutting.
