We have a 2002 115 df suzuki four stroke and since about 3 weeks we have problems with the fuel. It all startet out with the primerbulb. My brother in law tried to pump the primerbulb and it sprayed gas everywhere... it was old and briddle.... we didn't know because we never (since we have the boat) had to prime it up.So we bought a new one put it in the boat and forgot about it, till about 3 weeks ago. I cranked the boat and took off (wot) run it for about 50 yards and it died.My Hubsband came to my rescue and remember the briddle old primerbulb , changed it out and pumped it up and I was good to go again. No problems at all. After running it for about an 1 hour or so , I came back and parked the boat for about an hour.Later on we got back in the boat, it cranked right up, took us out for about 50 yards and died again. We primed it up and it was good to go again. If we go the whole day without parking we have no problems with it. If we park it for about an hour and want to go again and don't prime it or don't let it iddle for about 5 minutes it will take us (wot) for about 50 yards and die.Like I said to the begin with. ...We never had to prime it up and now we have to or it will not run for more than 50 yards. We have replaced the primerbulb with the original one from suzuki, we have no trash in the fuel lines and we have new high and low filters. It looks like that both of the fuelpumps are working (low pressure and High pressure pump)We don't want to take her out in the gulf as long as we don't know whats wrong with it. Please help ( still love my suzuki:cool:)

There is a non return action in the bulb and they often leak back to the tank.
Nothing to worry about just do as we all do, prime before you try starting the motor.
The bulb should become firm as you prime. If not then there is a leak or the carb float needles are not sealing off.

Did you replace the fuel hose that goes from the bulb to the engine?

It really sounds like you have a fuel restriction some where. I just went through a similar issue with my 2002 df 140. The hose going from the bulb to the engine was starting to come a part inside which was restricting my fuel flow. I would open it up (wot) it would run good for minute then fall flat on its face like it ran out of gas. I would pump the bulb and it would take off agian. What was happen was pieces of that hose would get sucked up the check valve fitting that clips on/off of the motor. Then it would run the gas out of the motor causing it shut down(no gas). Pumping the bulb would move the blockage a little bit and force fuel past the blockage and the motor would pick up and run fine.

If the bulb on your motor was as rotten as you describe, I am betting some bits and pieces of it have gotten somewhere they shoudn't and are creating a clog.

Also mercury/quicksilver primer bulbs are your friend.:)

Thanks guys.... Triumph190 I told my husband about what you said and he will check into it after work. You said that you had a problem like we have.Did your motor run fine after you primed it back up or did it died again after a minute or so? Ours runs great after we prime it up.I know that we could ignore the problem and keep on priming it up, but since we never had to do it I'm afraid if we don't find out what causes the problem and we take her out in the gulf fishing that she will quit all together. But I'll let you know what we came up with....... Thanks again:D

Mine would run fine once I got it primed up. If you did not replace the fuel hose from bulb to motor and it is original.... then I would guess it's in as bad or worse shape then your bulb was.

Re: Suzuki 115 df fuel problems

Okay ....we check the fuel lines and they look brandnew inside and outside. We took the engine cover off and primed the bulb and we can see that it fills up the filter with gas.... but as soon as we let go of the primer bulb the gas is leaking back down. So I called them and they will send me a new primer bulb. ( second one... one from wally world and one from suzuki) I hope that this will fix our problem. James the reason that I'm worried is that we never had to prime a bulb since we have the boat. I remember parking the boat last year oct. in the yard an took it back out on the river in march of this year. I never touch the bulb once and it cranked right up and was ready to go...So this is the reason that I'm worried that there is something else wrong with it....Never had too and now I have too.....:(

The primer bulbs from wal-mart are not very good. The one from suzuki should be much better. I use quicksilver(mercury) because I can get them locally without mail ordering.

ReelDixie: Give this a try. When you have your new fuel line and primer bulb installed. Pump the bulb until it gets firm, then turn the key on for 3 sec and then off, repeat 3 more times. Then pump up the primer bulb again and start it up. Each time the key is turned on and off the electric pump will cycle. It can help to get air out. Hope it works for you.
