suzuki 115 overheating question

year 85 suzuki 115 outboard
when I run it the flow of water coming out varies. Will be a strong stream sometimes when I really open it up and sometimes when it just sitting in neutral but when I take off it slows , which makes sense but when I get it on plane it doesn't always come back strong and will sputter sometimes and then the overheat alarm goes off. I sit in neutral for about 4-5 minutes and can go again but will most likely overheat again.
Run it in a river which has dirty water. I always flush it when I take it out. Taking it to Lake Gaston for a week (very clean water) and was thinking I could just really blow it out for a while and it may fix itself or does someone have some advice for me.

Do yourself a favour and drop the lower unit. Check out water pump and while your at it do thermostat and poppet if you have one. I looked for a motor that would fix itself but they aren't available yet. Do the maintenance or risk blowin er up.

Would I be basically replacing the water pump or is there something I can do to repair or clean the exsisting water pump.

Re: suzuki 115 overheating question

Just had the water pump kit installed on my 86 DT115. It is about 50.00 from Browns Point Marina. I've been told to do this about every three years.
