Suzuki 140 - Starting

I have a 93 Suzuki 140 (Carbs) that revs real<br />high when first started cold. After a 10 or 15 seconds it idles down fine. If I dont have the throttle lever all the way up it dies. But when it starts in the fully open postion it revs so high it sounds like it might blow up! Seems to me this cant be good for the motor to run that high when first started cold. The motor starts and runs fine when warmed up, is this normal? Thanks

Most newer 2cycle engines do this normally.<br />Yours may be set a bit too high.<br />But it may all be in your startup procedure. You shouldn't need to open the throttle up.<br />Pump the primer until the bulb is firm. Use the choke,and turn the engine over until it cranks,and release choke. If it stalls out,repeat. Sometimes, you can hear it falling off,and can give it just a quick on/off of the choke.<br />On some engines, the startup idle is set by the computer. Others are controled by heat sensors. I have never werked on a suzique,outside of bikes, but the shop manual will be able to steer you to the proper setup of the circuit.<br />And someone who HAs werked on them,may chime in and tell you which screw to turn. But do get the shop manual.It will pay for itself with the first impeller replacement job.

Thanks for the quick reply. I think your right, I only hold the the choke closed until<br />it fires then I release it. The owners manual<br />says I should lift the throttle lever all the way up but it may be set too high. Ill try choking it after it starts with the lever part way up. I have been looking for a repair manual but cant seem to find one for a 93! I will keep looking. Thanks again....
