I want to repower my boat. I am considering either Yamaha 250hp or Suzuki 300hp. Has anybody any advice?

Either are good motors. It really comes down to who's good in service and support in your area. If the nearest reliable dealer is 100 miles away it may not make much sense.

A lot depends on what boat you have but personally I'd go with the Yamaha HPDI.

also look at the 300 XS mercury...just as good fuel economy as the four stroke suzuki 300 and yamaha 2-stroke HPDI 300, and weighs less as well. not to mention it looks cooler IMO, has better gearcases such as the torque Master, Sport Master and Heavy-Duty Fleet Master, and it is made by mercury's racing divison, its not just your standard consumer engine. its also proven that that xs does not pump out 300 h.p. they are dynoed out to be 310 and more.

also check out the e-tec 250 .the first motor in a long time to hand mercury their heads at the 24 hour of rouen endurance race.(think i spelled the race name wrong?)it had a stock top end on it to!sorry it was a 225 ho that destroyed the competition.but nevertheless the 250 would not be a bad choice.the 225 ho was 53 miles or 23 laps ahead of the mercury at the drop of the checkered flag

You cen't make mistake. Both are excellent engines. I would also consider Honda BF 225 VTEC (from Honda Legend car), which is optimized a two years ago, and now it has much better fuel economy then the others. New Mercury Verado 200 (4 cilinders engine) could also be an option.
