Suzuki 9.9 XL, EZ to shorten?

I have a 2009 extended 25" motor and need to shorten it. I know there is an extension on the case that can be removed, but I am wondering if the drive shaft has a coupling that extends it or if I need a new shaft?

Anyone have any experience in this either shortening or extending?

I know this is an old post, but wondered if you ever got any answers/figured it out? I ask as I have an older, 1987 Suzuki 9.9 that's long shaft (not XL), 20" and would like to shorten it to short shaft, 15" to fit my boat.

What's involved, anyone know?
