Hi guys, I'm a complete noob when it comes to boating- well serious boating that is. I have an avon inflatable with a 10hp johnson that has been dependable . I just picked up a seaswirl with an older 2 stroke Suzuki DT140. It has 5 month old gas and oil in it, no tuneup in about year and a half and I do see some of the spark plugs rusted. What do you guys recommend as far as pumping out the old gas and oil and going with new fuel? I know the plugs should be changed out. Also what type of oil and gas are you guys that are running the older suzukis using? Can I use the cheap oil as long as it's tcw-3 rated? Thanks

I have an '85 DT115, almost the same motor. Here are my opinions...

Fuel is only 5 months old, add Seafoam to it and top off the tank, you should be good...

Change the lower unit oil to be sure it is water free...

As far as 2 stroke oil, I use YamaLube, produces less smoke and it is TCW-3. You can use any TCW-3, but both Quicksilver and Walmart's SuperTech smoked alot in my opinion...

Also, if it is not there already, install a Fuel/Water seperator filter...

You should be good to go...
