Suzuki DT140 WOT question

Having recently found this site, I have several questions, some of which I have been able to answer from the other posts and some not. One question I have had is that my engine will run in 6500-6700 rpm at WOT, and is not restricted by the over rev limiter. I am running this on a 25' pontoon boat, with a 13 3/4 X 15 prop. This motor was put on after my last one decided it needed a whole in the head. I have been running it at 5300-5500 rpm, according to my tach. Is there a way to test the over rev limiter. Should I test with another tach. Is it ok to run the engine as is. Could the cables be set up wrong, since I did not use the Suzuki side mount remote, but had the cables converted to fit the throttle already mounted on the boat. Any thoughts?

Re: Suzuki DT140 WOT question

Max rpm on that engine at WOT should be about 5800-6000. Sounds like you are underpropped and should go up in pitch a bit to drop back to 6000 rpm provided that your tachometer is hooked up correctly.
