Re: Suzuki DT40 technical details
Hi All,
I hope you don't mind adding to your post, delfinasul.
Here it goes.
I have the 2000 DT140 that I previously complained about the overheating and low output power. Since then I have fixed the overheating problem. I changed out the stuck thermostat and impeller. However, the low output power remains. I have good compression. The readings between cylinders were 125 psi. I have also looked at the possible ignition problem but have found none. I replaced one worn out spark plug boot (#1) and tightened grounding bolts. I have no problem starting and idling around 800 rpm. However, at WOT the maximum rpm registered on the tach is around 4800 rpm. The portable GPS indicates speed at around 31 mph with very little load on the 19 ft CC boat. I have no reason to believe that the tach is off since I believe the boat could run much faster than 31 mph. Previously, have no problem reaching 6000 rpm at wot. I have begun looking at the cyclinder wall sensor which could be bad causing the ECU to put the engine in FAIL SAFE mode thus limiting output power. I do have a burn smell after running the engine on the water. Any thoughts or suggestions on how I can diagnose this low rpm and low output power are greatly appreciated.
