Hey everyone. Im following up my problem with my lower unit on a new post... I finally figured out the dt65 lower unit removal. I felt kind of stupid when I finally figured it out. I guess when you wanna catch a fish, you gotta think like one. Meaning, foriegn motors are pretty logically set up, and there isn't much (if any) room for creativity...lol) Now, I'll go into detail for those who might be in the midst of this problem, but skip past this info if not interested and see if you can help me out with the rest of my problem...
on the dt65, there is a rubber grommet/plug (looks like a parallelogram) on the starboard side right. remove this to get access to the nut that disconnects the shift arm. Remove the nut as well as the arm and you are left with the threaded rod, to which you push in enough to disengage this horizontal rod with the vertical one located more towards the port side of engine (you can see it on the port side if you look closely for it and follow the line of the rod from the other side. think of the end of the rod like a square "J" that slides in and out of the vertical shaft running down into lower unit (push the horinotal rod in to remove, pull it out to get it back into the shaft, making sure the hole of on the vertical shaft lines up with the pin on the horizotal one) once you push the horizontal arm in enough, the pin hook slides out and you should be free. to reassemble, reverse this. Use some sort of wedge to keep the rod from sliding back in when you try to get the nut back on.
SO, now moving on... I got the lower unit off and inspected the impeller which seemed in good shape. I replaced the lower unit oil, as well. But I am still stuck in reverse. I don't get any play in the clutch shaft. It's like it's stuck in place. I eventually plan to take the lower unit all apart and redo the seals because there was water in the lower unit oil, but it was working fine until I took off the lower unit and put it back on. What would cause the shaft to get stuck in reverse. I did not venture past the water pump housing, but it seems below that point is were the problem lies. Like I said, it was working before I took it off, so I am assuming I did something to jam it up, hopefully nothing irreversable. I didnt force anything...I stopped when I couldnt remove it the first time, and bolted it back together until I had a chance to figure it out correctly. However, it was resisting when putting back together. Since then, I got the manual, but it shows or tells nothing of what might be the problem. I can only think it might have come out of some sort of joint or coupling that is keeping it from moving. I put new lube in it and I had it running, thinking it was some sort of pressure converter that would release the clutch easier, but no luck. If you got any advice please help. Even if I have to end up bringing it into a shop (which I dread the cost) I still wanna kno whow this thing works and what I mighta done wrong. Thanks.
