Recently I repowered my boat with a pair of 175hp Suzuki's and I popped for the SMIS instruments. The problem is that I can't get the SMIS digitals to show Oil pressure, eng temp, water pressure ect. The mechanic says Suzuki doesn?t provide this data to the gage from the motor and there is nothing I can do about it. Has anyone else had this problem? This is one of the main reasons I paid all that money for the system.

You're going to get better help on this question in the Yamaha and Suzuki Outboard section. This section is for all the orphan and oddball outboards.

Fiind a new Suzuki tech -- here's the info on the SMIS system. The only issue I see is that water pressure would require a sender that I don't think the engine has but perhaps the multifunction gauge has the nipple for a conventional setup. Otherwise, the engine management system has oil pressure and engine temp monitoring and it can report it to the SMIS system.

You will not get oil pressure. You would need a NMEA 2000 pressure sender for the water pressure and a proper engine kit from Suzuki. Engine temp is only available if you have the latest software updates for the EP20 and the SMIS gauges. If you do not have a Lowrance display, you will have to hook one up to the network to do the update.

Why didn't your dealer do it when he installed the motors? If you installed them yourself you better hope Suzuki doesn't get wind of it or your Warranty is worthless.

Perhaps I wasn't clear. I gave my Suzuki dealer a huge check to repower my boat.

What do I need to do to get SW updates into my system? Where can I buy the HW and SW to connect?

Your dealer can get the software updates from Suzuki tech. In order to update, you will have to purchase or borrow any Lowrance display and install it on the network in order to apply the update. A QUALIFIED dealer will have a display and the hardware to perform the update. If your installing dealer does not understand this, then you need to find a QUALIFIED dealer.

One other item, is there a way to pull historical info from the system? IE hours at what RPM? I picked up the boat with 1 hour on the motors and the manual is VERY clear on how the boat is supposed to be operated during the break-in period.

you wil need a labtop with sds 5.0
have the correct gables and adaptor modules and hook it up to your outboard plug with the black rubber boot over it.

or go to the dealer and let him do a data dump.

you can see all the history of the motor.

your smis gauges should be able to tell you the hours on the motor.

OK, Suzuki outboards will NOT show OIL PRESSURE on SMIS. Period!

There is a page in the gauge - now remember the gauge is a LOWRANCE LMF-400 and has features that are not used on every application. The LMF-400 gauge is the exact same gauge the Evinrude is using. Go delete the page for oil pressure since it's not going to work with an outboard.

Side note: current SMIS (LMF-400) gauges are running firmware 1.5.0 and a dealer can update from v 1.0.0 with a head unit that is NEMA 2000 rated (I prefer Lowrance, but just did it yesterday with a Garmin).

and by the way.... Currently a QUALIFIED Suzuki dealer had better be using SDS 6.0 since it was released over 6 months ago!!
