Boy they sure seem to all use Ruger 10/22's! Saw one jam tonight though, we love ours
I imagine they don't use larger calibers so as to not ruin the gators???

Or so the bullet doesn't go through the bottom of the boat when having to shoot one while crawling towards them IN the boat! :facepalm:

Noticed one of the rifles and one of the pistols seemed awfully rusty and nasty last night, not very well taken care of ... That surprised me.

I wonder where they buy ammo! You have to keep rimfire guns clean or they will jam

Yeah that salt water, or is it brackish, sure takes it's toll on the firearms....... You can tell who cares about their guns and who doesn't...

As long as they continue shooting those rusted guns, the rifling inside will remain clean and without rust. It is only the out side that will rust from much water/moisture exposure. And Ruger 10/22's are blow-back designed and not gas operated. So there will be no need to clean gas pistons and buildup in the operation of them. Outside rust will not harm the operation, but does look bad.

Bubba, there's many points of view or opinions on most everything. Most any blued firearm will rust in its life time unless the owner takes reasonable care of it. That IS one reason manufacturers came out with stainless steel firearms, to alleviate such constant maintenance. Not having lots of money growing up I learned quickly to take care of everything to make them last as long as one could. It really had nothing to do with time/cost factor, but more of knowing money wasn't readily available to repurchase these over again. And I steel have those same mindset opinions even though money really isn't much of an issue with me these days. I have guns given to me from my teen years that look like they are new still. But I do take very good care of everything I own... And I know I have spend more time refurbishing things then I could have bought new. It is just I enjoy doing those things...

Not all use Ruger 10/22's. RJ and Jay Paul use Savage Arms. Savage Arms say the have been using there guns for a long time.

My mossberg is also a blowback design but if I don't keep the receiver clean I start to get jams and stovebolts. Clean it will rip through a 25 round magazine in about 5 seconds without a hiccup.

Oh I fully understand what not having money is all about. (BTDT) It just seems that when it comes to guns some folks are way over the top and act like a gun is something other than another cheaply replaced tool. Many invest far more time in them than their value would ever justify. I brought it up because my brother is one of them, he has a cow when he visits and see's my guns (in the case) with a spot of rust on them dusty and I tell him I don't care and it's not worth my time to do anything about it. He even goes so far to say, "Well if you feel that way you don't deserve to own them". Of course it really gets him going when I say deserve has nothing to do with it and Wally World sells to anyone. :lol:

Bubba, I 100% completely understand what you are saying. And that does go for most guns as well. But I have a lot of guns. Actually too many to actually know anymore. But I keep them in a very large gun safe. Why you may ask? For a few very good reasons. First is for the safety of them. Not wanting to have any of them stolen, but I live in a crime free development and we never had even one problem with any such crime....yet! Secondly the safe has some serious moisture control in it to keep them all pristine. And thirdly, I do have some cheap guns, but I also have a lot of guns in the $1000 to $2000 dollar price range as well. And a lot of those types too... So They are really a large investment that stay clean and secured... I just love guns as a hobby...what can I say?

Yeah, I think the shoot 'em til they won't shot anymore then just get another one. The probably have a stack of them at the house. It's not like they're trying to hit a target at a significant distance. As long as the bullet can travel 6" in a straight line it does it's job. Besides if you spend enough time in salty/brackish water, everything is going to corrode eventually.

I think my ruger 10/22 likes to be mildly dirty, not sure why but if I clean it the first magazine has a couple hiccups after that it just wants to be fed...


and then the real problem rears its ugly head, feeding it...

On the 10/22 I had it didn't like cheapest Blazer lead ammo. If I used copper washed AE it ran great.

I agree that those guns are working tools for those gator hunters. They are banged around in the boat, dropped, used as a push pole and sometimes an oar. If one were to be dropped overboard, it could be replaced without too much lamenting.
If I were to gator hunt I would probably like a pump or bolt action 22 just for reliability.

I bet they have sponsors throwing guns, motors, boats and all kinds of other gear at them at this point. I think I saw the father/son team doing a fancy Carolina Skiff commercial the other day while watching the fishing shows.
