Don't know if this has been asked before, but, I'm sure some here have seen this program, ok you rivet guys, is it possible to get 15 or more of those gators in one of those tinnies like some of those 800 lbs-ders they brag on, seems like an awful amount of weight for two guys to throw around like they do and put on these boats, what size boats are these, to me looks to be about 24 or there about footers some sporting 150hp, how do they keep there baseball caps on at the speeds they seem to be going. The numbers just don't seem to add up for the boat sizes on the weight..

Just curious.

These look like some tough dudes

Re: swamp people

They are 20ft. skiffs hand made, usually by the owner. 3/16 aluminum they are made to hold the weight. Most of the gators aren"t that heavy but some are. And I ride with my cap on at 47 mph gps. the are only going about 30mph.

Re: swamp people

Speaking of .22s, I see Jr popped his kid again. Looks like the kid had enough and will be huntin' with his brother. Don't blame him....... I like the show. Just don't mess with Liz! :faint2: Funny how she tells her kid to watch her mouth when Liz cusses like a sailor......:suspicious:

Judging by some of those motors, they must have quite a few bucks tied up in those boats. Especially when they have multiple boats. I see some nice looking e-tecs. I wonder if there's some sponsorship going on?

When the new season began, actually it was the season preview, Liz was running an old beat up Verado when she first started running her own boat in the flashbacks. Last year she had a spanking new big Tohatsu. I've noticed most of the tow rigs are all new or newish pick-ups too. Either sponsorship or History is tossing bags of money at them. Also, if you go to any of their websites and look at the appearance schedules - If they aren't hunting gators or whatever else they do for a living, they're at hunting and fishing shows. So I don't think any of them are hurting money-wise.

Back to Liz for a sec - Why doesn't she wear gloves? She must use a couple of rolls of electrical tape every show wrapping her fingers.

On the Alweld site, they say they built custom boats for Trapper Joe and Liz. No idea on the rest of the boats. On how much gator weight the boats can carry, I've seen them off-loading gators to other boats - especially R.J. and Jay Paul in the air boat saying they had too much in the boat.

I miss Mitchell and Glenn together. They were a pair!

+1. They're mostly running heavy duty aluminum work skiffs meant for hauling loads more than top end speed. Most of the gators are really only around 6'-8' and weigh under 300lbs. You can fit quite a few in a boat with big enough motor. It seems like the guys in the open water are running 100+ hp motors, but probably only hit 40mph at most when fully loaded. Other boats use various surface drive motors which also have lots of low end torque, but not a lot of top end speed. Some of them are even using airboats with 350 chevy motors that can carry half a dozen tourists and/or gators. You see folks get gators in much smaller rigs than that. A lot of folks here in FL will even go gator hunting in Gheenoes like in the clip below. Regardless, they're all using bigger/better rigs than the Pirogues and Gladeskiffs the old timers used.

I'm with Bob_VT though. I'd rather leave them be. I see them every time I take the boat out and have lived around them my whole life and never had an issue. They're kinda cute if you give 'em a chance. Sorta like big frogs with teeth....sorta :)

Some interesting stuff there, like the videos as well, $4000 not bad for a good boat like that. I often wondered about the not wearing gloves action and their hands must be well calloused to overcome some of the rope burns.
Good money I suppose, but a tough way to get it.

... and the camera angle in that pic has the proportions way distorted. You can find that pic on snopes and it tells how big that gator it... and it aint that big.

it's well over 12', which is plenty big for me.

I believe it. I bet many of them have motor sponsors too at this point. The sad part is that while the guys are getting $40k, the show is probably making $40 million :/

Troy Landry made over 3 million dollars last year just off of the sale of "Choot 'em" memorabilia. I beez from Lafayette, those people are popular around here, they live only a few miles from me.

The show is real, but, it has a little bit of drama added in. If you notice, during taping, many times the gator comes to the surface clearly and slowly, yet they dont shoot. They yank on the line and get the gator to fight. They were told by the producers to make the fight last as long as possible, so they do that on purpose. Pay attention to how many come up, even for just a moment, and yet they dont shoot at them. In fact, watch how many grab the line and then after fighting the gator, yell "get the gun!" Well one must ask, why didnt you have the gun ready in the first place?

The show is ok to me, a bit silly.

"Get the gun" That one always gets me. LOL Like maybe a log is on the end of the line instead of a few hundred dollars worth of alligator trying to get off?

Re: swamp people

I believe the payout from A&E, but that doesn't include the licensing royalties of the bobbleheads, shirts, hats, sponsors,a nod appearances. The Landry's make a lot of appearances at Gander Mountain stores and Bass Pro shops ... I was a bit surprised to see that Troy Landry's NET worth so only 750K.

The Landry's have made up to the northwoods too. I should go see my long lost brother......

Yeah, I'm sure they play it up for tv. That's with anything. I know a guy in town that met some of the Deadliest Catch guys. This guy I know was a on a pollock boat that processed the fish completely on board on the Bering Sea. The Catch guys were talking too how they were supposed to play it up for tv. Which btw, new episodes start soon, maybe next week......
