Re: swamp people

I recently saw a Modern Marvels on History about a pollock fishing factory ship on the Bering Sea. Talk about work! Above and below deck. 15 hour shifts standing sorting, stacking, etc. A lot of automation and a lot of hard manual labor. Not sure I could it, even when I was young.

DC season 9 starts Tues. at 9.

They did a show about the boat the guy I know was on. Not sure if it was the same one. I saw it awhile ago. They even interviewed him. He was up in the bridge..... Now he's in the Gulf fishing for who knows what......... 5 weeks on 5 off....

Well then, you get to see it an hour earlier.

On of the amazing stats on the pollock boat was that the sale of roe to the Japan was the profit for the trip. I forget how many tons but it sells in Japan at $60 a pound.

Sounds like your buddy might be menhaden fishing.

The people are getting paid well. Kate plus 8, and deadliest catch both have had law suits about the big money and the history channel does not say what anyone gets paid. The show is becoming too scripted when they act like they just broke an engine and are stranded when we all know there is another boat with camera guys on it near by. That is just play acting and hurts the show.

I believe it was Season #1 when Bruce had his bother also fishing.

Bruce' brother was shown making a "one off" skiff for a guy. Talk about talent! He was proud of it too. $$$$--CASH!.

I enjoyed Ice Road Truckers for the first season or so until they decided they needed scripted conflict and drama to keep the ratings up. Deadliest Catch also started out (pretty much) with real people doing real jobs with maybe just a little scripting for C & D. Subsequent "reality" shows learned from that and instituted scripts, drama and conflict from the get go.
