i have twin 05 305 mercs......
they are currently set up as fuel injected motors.

there is a good possibility that all the electronics in the motors are shot.

thinking dollar wize...

can i convert these motors to a naturally asperated system?

thanks all
cheers

depends on alot of things, 05 theres many electrical things you have to worry about, knock sensors, electronic timing and others... if you were to go mechanical with vacuum advance, you would have to put around 600+ into each motors for legit marine carbs, + flame arrestors, + marine ignition... id rethink fixing what is in there..

600 a side is just fine.....in fact thats super...

uh....these motors.....well.....they went swminng in salt water.
so every electrical part from the oil pan to the cover plate is toast....but we got 2 good working blocks and manifolds....the rest.....wellllll........?????

I think you'll be a far bit more than $600/engine for; carb, fuel system, ignition, (intake?) wiring harness. Then,,, being in Canada, that'll tack on a bit more...

So how bad are the engines? If they were in water long enough to ruin the electrical/electronics I'd be questioning the mechanical side of the engines too. Fire?

they were fogged as soon as they came up......i dont know the exact time it was down......the motors actually look great !.....just a little salt on the front pully......the rest looks fantastic...

i just unloaded them off the truck tonight.....so no electrical checks were done.......all i did was to turn the crank ....(just to check...plugs were out...it turned)

Injectors are probably fine. fuel pumps also. sensors should have been weather packed. The actual ecu would be my biggest worry. Unplug all connectors and use an electronic cleaner and a tooth brush. Dielectric lube on all not globs just enough to cover contact and socket. Distributors should be cleaned out and use a spray product called electric seal. We had over 100 electric forklifts sink in the flood in Nashville. We disassembled all control units and sprayed with cleaner, then electric seal after they dried out. Absolutely no problems unless they were plugged up. Then only 1 sector of the system was shorted. All glass fuses should be replaced they are not water tight.

Ayuh,... Sure, No problem...

I'd spend the time figurin' out what's salvagable, 'n Exactly what needs replacin'...
And then a bunch a time at a parts lookup site to determine which will be Cheaper...

The Distributers are the same, their electronics change though...
I'd think the wiring harness is junk,..

It might be cheaper to fix what's there...

You won't be using those distributors on a carbed engine. Being 2005 engines, they are probably the new composite electronic switch distributors with the flat caps, and no way to run it without EFI.
I wouldn't put any money into the engine till you pull the intakes, valve covers, oil pan and timing cover. If they weren't run after sinking, they are probably rusty junk inside, even though you can turn them over by hand.

I get the impression your "inspection" consists of how the exterior engine paint looks.
When the internal components are inspected, you will have a better idea of how to proceed.
You have a naturally aspirated engine, carbureted or injected.
You need a blower or turbocharger to change that.
