swapped Xr4 in place of my old inline 4 now poping fuse?

I have a 1988 sea ray seville 16.5 ft ski boat. It originaly had a 100Hp I4 mercury. I swapped on a 89 Xr4 and now as soon as I turn the key on it beeps for a split second then pops the ignition fuse??
The only wires i have hooked up is the main harness plug. there are a few single wires that I need to hook up but need a digram.

thanks also does anyone know how to fill the hydraulic steering back up with fluid?

I would think the wiring is compatable between those two motors. Disconnect the battery and use an ohm meter see if you have dead short on the purple wire, when the ignition is on. The purple wire is the accessory wire to the gauges and other stuff. It only has juice when the ignition key in in the run position. The otehr wire to check for a short is the red/purple wire. This is fuzed +12VDC. However I think it is hot all the time

You might get a manual. It will have the wiring diagram.
