Does any one know if the transom mounting holes are the same for these two motors? They seem to measure the same. - 1986 50 HP Electric start Yamaha going to a 1988 Mariner 100 HP. Perhaps you could refer me to a past post or another site which may have this info. Thank You

They're either the same, or visually different. Merc was one of the last to use the universal mounting pattern first begun by Johnson/Evinrude in the 60s. Merc finally joined the rest of the world about two decades later. If it has two external trim rams, it isn't the same. If the trim unit is between the brackets, it probably is. Unless your Yamy has clampscrews you tighten by hand. Then all bets are off.

The motor is a Mariner. The trim and tilt unit is between the mounting bracket not external to the mounting bracket. I measured the holes and the measurements seemed the same. No clamp screws on the Yammy, through the transom bolts. Thanks you all again for your replies.

They normally take the clamp screws out when they bolt on a motor that has these aswell, .... if your measurements show you that they fit, then go for it .... good luck
