I want to swap exhaust manifolds from a 1983 Mercruiser 5L/305 MCM228 serial# 6285627 to a late 70's Mercruiser 898 5L/305 (198HP) serial #5403332. The '83 Mercruiser has the risers in the middle of the manifolds and the 898 has the elbows at the back of the manifolds. It seems to me if I swap the thermostat housing unit also it should be OK. Does anyone see a problem with this?

Swapping parts over from a 1983 Mercruiser 5L/305 MCM228 to a 898 Mercruiser motor

Swapping parts over from a 1983 Mercruiser 5L/305 MCM228 to a 898 Mercruiser motor

The 898 has a serial# 5403332. Right now I want to swap the exhaust manifolds & risers and thermostat housing from the MCM228 to the 898. The 898 had elbows at the back of the manifolds and the MCM228 has risers in the center of the manifolds. There is also 1 less hose each side on the MCM228 from the thermostat housing to the manifolds. Any problem with doing this?

Nope, with the correct therm housing it will work just fine.
