Swapping / Interchanging carbs

Hello,
I have a volvo penta 90 (~9hp outboard) that I am unable to get to run w/o the choke on (though the choke only needs to be open a tiny bit). I notice after I run her for a bit with the choke open a bit there is some fuel dripping out of the throat of the carb. I have cleaned the carb (including freeze plugs, etc) four times and always get the same result (well, the first time after I cleaned it it ran from not running, so that was some progress). It is an older carb and I am unable to find replacement needles/etc. and am wondering if possibly there is a bad seat somewhere.

Anyway, given the scarcity of parts and the fact that I am sick of tearing this carb down, I was wondering if it is possible to take another carb from a different, similarly sized, outboard that has the same intake manifold bolt sizing and just hook that up to the volvo? If so, any tips on finding a suitable replacement carb?

Thanks!

Why not? I din't see any reason not to if it securely bolts on to the reed assembly. The only options are that it would work or not work. As long as it was off of a comparable hp motor that is. My 5.5 hp and 3 hp evinrude use the same carburetor and they are 7 years apart.
