I am looking to purchase a 1986 Beachcomer with a 6 cylinder chevy engine. The boat needs an outdrive. Can someone tell me if the outdrive I have in my 1979 Searay with a 898 Mercruiser (V8 305 Chevy engine ) will bolt up dirctly to this boat and if the spline on the shaft is the same thing? Basically if I buy this boat I just want to bolt up my outdrive without any modifications or changes.
Please let me know.... I appreciate any advice on this matter.

It will not interchange due to the upper gear ratio's are different. The V-6 is a 1:84:1 and the V-8 is 1:50:1. It will bolt up with no problem as housings share the same bolt patterns and shaft components

The shaft will be too long on your 898 drive. The 6 cylinder used a shorter shaft than the V8s and 4cyls.

The shaft will not be long enough on your 898 drive. The 6 cylinder used a shorter shaft than the V8s and 4cyls

That was the IL6, TW, the 86 would have been a V6. Still a differnt gear ratio, but same coupler and shaft as the V8.

You are absolutely correct, Don. I made the "assumption" that since he didn't type "V6" he has an inline 6.
