swapping power pack crossflow ,looper

Thank you Dhadley for your answer on v6 v8 power packs. I needed to know this because I need a power pack or timing base for my 1991 v6 looper. I am trying to track down used parts that will work. The question I have, is wether a 1991 v6 crossflow powerpack would be the same as a 1991 v6 looper power pack? Are they interchangeable? They have different part numbers. I just received the service manual that describes all of the tests, and will be checking it out this weekend, so I should know for sure. Thanks, JD

Youre probably not gonna believe this but I did something close once, but its been a long time and we may be taxing the grey cells a bit on this end.

The reason we did it was to get around the rev limiter on the looper but we had a 1986 looper which had the 2 smaller packs. Your 91 should have one large pack. It may still work but it will definately not look right and may be very confusing later.

All I did was take the crossflow pack and match up the wires by color code from the stator, sensor and to the coils. The wires were too short and the plug ins had to be changed to match the looper. I just made extensions.

When I went to fire it up, two cylinders were out of time on each bank. Simply a matter of moving the primary wires on the coils to achieve the correct firing order.

We didnt accomplish our goal of 100 mph -- got to 98 and ran out of prop. The guy sold the boat before we could go any further.

In short, I think it will work but like I said it may look funny and I think you'll lose Quickstart, the rev limiter and SLOW.

Wouldn't the right pack be easier?
