Any helpful suggestions on a bimini top that sways enough for me to worry about it breaking at the mounting points?
It does it when it is in the closed position at a moderate cruising speed. Yes,it has support braces.

splugee,

Yes, it happens.

About the only solution is to add cross support straps going from on side to the other.

As an example:

Brace it from one side, with webbing material, to the other. Visa versa.

Re: Swaying Bimini Top

I added another support post attaching to one of the main support posts at the top and perpindicular to the main post at the bottom. It tightened right up and barely moves even in rough water conditions. Cost me a couple of bucks for the added fittings and about $15 for a piece of tubing. It was a fairly easy installation the took about 30 minutes.
