i have always thought this would be a good idea. Why not do two seperate swim platforms on either side of the motor and then have a piece that connects them in the middle that is hindged on one side or the other. when the motor has to be raised all way up it can be flipped over to one side allowing the motor to raise. then when the motor is lowered into opperational range flip the piece back over and lock it in place. then you have a full width swim platform. easy enough to make out of wood and fiberglass with some aluminum supports.
I think the boat would plane fine because the hull will displace the water. It will push away and out making the water line lower on the boat in the transom. Slowing down abruptly may swamp the platform but if it has drains then it shouldn?t be a big problem. once my transom is stiffened up im going into production mode.
The swim platform on an I/O is above the outdrive. However, as suggested, one could be designed and fabricated where the center portion of the swim platform could be hinged but...
doesn't the O/B bolt onto the transom and if so, how is a full length swim platform is going to be able to work?
