I have a 17ft 87 Bayliner Capri sitting on a nor' Easter roller trailer.

The boat is really close to my vehical when hooked up I was thinking of adding 2ft of tounge by adding a swing away
to increase the distance, and to keep it fitting the garage. any issues besides the tounge weight?

PS the trailer is a 96 i believe

Thx in advance

Should be an easy addition . . . tongue weight should not be too much of a concern for a 17 footer.

Also, is there any room to slide the boat back on the trailer? . . . or is it pretty much where it should be?

I've had one for about 5 years. No problems. You can always cut off some of the existing tongue if you don't want the whole 2 ft addition of the swing tongue. If you have a spare tire holder you can move it up a bit to add some of the lost tongue weight.

Agree with adding length, but unless the 2 foot is causing you problems why lengthen it? You could use a swing away or even make an extension that slides in and drop a pin or two in to hold, like a receiver hitch.

If there is a wreck your boat shouldn't move unless not secured properly. If it was 5 feet back and moved it could still be an issue.

I needed the swing tongue to fit in my garage but it also allowed me to do exactly what you said, slide the boat up a bit to make the transom straps fit better. It also adds another safety measure as I pull the pin and put a lock through the tongue bracket. I know it's not fool proof but it may stop somebody from looking twice at stealing the boat. It also allowed me to open my tailgate without smacking the bow! I'd bet that with moving the boat up and the 2 foot extension will result in a negligible change in tongue weight.

here's a thought sub, instead of a lock through the pin hole consider wrapping a safety chain around the frame and locking that

I've added the Fulton 34" extension to 2 of my trailers.

Puts the boat in a little deeper at the launch.
Allows me to open the tailgate on the tow vehicle.
Keeps the boat from looking like it is coming in the back window. :)
