switch box or not plez. help....

I just bought a mariner 50 hp. motor as is , that had went under water for no more than a hour,the motor had ben started after that and i think some one hooked the battery up backwards,so now it spins over but no fire on nether one of the 4 clinders. switch box is 332-5772 . how many wires going to box shoud be hot and how many volts ? i have less than 5 v comming to 1 wire. any help would be appr.

sorry--- 8.6 volts to 1 wire the black with white strip with key on .

You should have 0 DC volts to the box it is a ground out ign. much like a magneto, DC volts will kill the system.

thanks much laddies . where do u think i should start looking now does this mean the switch box is probley fried ? what could have shorted to make that wire have 8.6 volts on it ? please help.

If it's the black/yellow wire it's the switch thats shorted just disconnect it from the box to prevent more problems, here a test from CDI

thank u laddies again. i will try again .if i was as good at this as u guys mabe i would not have to ask dumb questions ,i'm more of a auto guy than outbord but i sure have learned alot with this project.thanks again.
