Switch Box Question

Is it possible for a swithbox to fail only on the low RPM side? The reason I ask is I am loosing all power from idle to about 2k rpm and then it runs fine. I've had this happen before and it was the stator. This time the stator is fine.

I plan on running a few more test the next time I get to the boat (switching the boxes and checking which cyls have spark). It's a Merc 135 OB '90.

Thanks Troy

Also, does anyone know which box controls which cyls? Outside = 135? Thanks

Re: Switch Box Question

I know that it is possible for a 94 model 115 Merc power pac or coil to go bad or "flutter" at high rpm. So I would guess that it IS possible. The manual I have does not cover your model. Ask your local dealer for help with answering which coil controls which cylinder.

Invest in a shop manual if possible - I did and it's a wealth of information :)

Re: Switch Box Question

Troy, The stator is responsible for providing the switchbox with power to produce the spark. Stators have high and low speed windings.

There are tests for the stator on the CDI electronics web site. Choose the correct procedure for your ADI ignition.
