switchbox off 115hp on a 70hp

will this work ? its the same year era. engines

mines a 79 70hp and the pack i can take off a 115hp early 80's prob.
the coil packs on the 115hp are the exact same.

this is my last resort, i cant get power out of my engine with new trigger,stator,plugs, and a powerpack that did work at one point. carbs are clean compression all over 120 EVERYTHING is good and the motor wont go.

anyone that knows for sure let me know. I almost feel like trying anyways since I dont have much care for my 70 anymore since the bs it gives me.

thanks iboats, remember the motor acts differently on different days, one day it idles and runs upto 4k, others it barely runs, others it only idles....etc....im lost

Yes, those are the same switchboxes, just that the 6 cyl takes 2 of them.

Switchbox is one thing I would definitely not buy used.

its off a working outboard...but the 115's arent labeled. its worth a shot i suppose. im not buying them just trying

a faulty switchbox can result in the two lower cylinders to run like crap ? fuel spitting out the carb and oily plugs from not firing properly ? worth a shot tho thanks.

ANything's possible with a bad switchbox, but I would generally expect a bad box to affect all cylinders. Your symptoms sound more like an issue with the lower carb.

ill try the box when I can and have a mechanic check out whats going on tmrw with the spark using a timing gun. then he can check out his carb since he rebuilt it

The packs are different - will not work. The 115 pack fires 2-cylinders and only has wiring for two. The 70 pack fires 3-cylinders and is wired accordingly. I wouldn't even try it as it may fry the 115 pack - if it even plugs in...

If the 115 in question is early 80's (79-89 specifically) as the OP believes, then it's a 6 cyl and the packs are the same. If the 115 is a 4 cyl (89+) then the poster above is correct.

Sorry - I was assuming it was the 4-cylinder model, which didn't come out until the late 1980s. 6-cylinder pack will work on the 3...

sry folks, it is the I6 tower of power, pack looks identical but with no markings.

if my carb is spitting fuel and not running properly im thinking its more of a carb or reed problem. but for half hour of my time ill swap the pacs and fire up. will post results

well I swapped them with no change, so i believe my switchbox is in ok shape...its something else.

I cant even get slight power out of the motor to plane now so its getting worse. ill try some different plugs in it again and that will be it. I have no idea what causes this problem !

original pack is back on, tried other plugs no luck....zero plane power out of this motor now shes done......dont know what else to do other than pull the carb off and look. ive spent atleast 10x's the hours repairing/diagnosing than using this motor.

compression is still all good, nothing changes priming the bulb at wot plugs come out oily and wet. I guess a reed it out or the carb has an issue....unless my trigger/stator took a crap even though they are new
