65 hp Mercury serial# 2712512. I am replacing old and coroded wiring to the switchbox. I printed off the wiring diagram from maxrules diagram and went to work, then stopped do to confusion. I have switchbox 48726(stamped on outside)with a red or brown terminal, blue, white, and a green terminal top to bottom. Any help with what actually goes where would be greatly appreciated. Could this possibly be a 650S as this diagram looks much closer to what I have.

Re: switchbox wiring

From the top: Red wire from ignition driver. 2nd from top: three wires, Salmon from harness, blue from ignition driver, Brown from mercury switch. Third from top: Green to coil. Then there is a black ground on the bottom to coil.

Re: switchbox wiring

Are you sure that is the right switch box?. I have another diagram the shows a distributor and different switch box. Has different wiring.

Re: switchbox wiring

Well I was wondering if I had a 650S as the second diagram in the original post is just about identical to what I have.

Re: switchbox wiring

I found this old thread which I think applies to my 69 650 4cyl ser#2717403. When I traced all the wiring that had been replaced at some time with all red wire, I managed to find all the colours mentioned above. However, I also have a 3rd wire from the ignition driver which is white (or tan?) Anyone shed any light on where it should go? It looks like from the length of the wire it would fit on the 3rd from top but I've got no spark when I connect it there. Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks.
