Re: Switchbox
Switchbox is what Merc calls it's ignition component that creates intermediate pulsed high voltage. On most Mercs, a low voltage from the stator is dumped into the switchbox. The switchbox steps it up to a medium voltage, rectifies it and stores in a capacitor. When the trigger fires, this voltage is sent to the ign coil and it fires a spark plug. Some Mercs have a single switchbox and a distributor, some have two (triple) switchboxes and six coils, and others have combinations of switchboxes with a coil for each cylinder.
