switching a 1974 70hp to 1996 60hp johnson

thinking of buying a newer outboard
will my controls from my older johnson work with this new of an engine
if not anyone know what type of controls
i need
old motor has no t/t
new motor has t/t and vro

The 1974 70hp will be red plug wire harness and 1996 will be the changeover year to the modular wire harness so they are not really interchangeable.
