I am going to be changing over to xd100 on my 98 johnson faststrike soon. My oil tank is half way full or empty of tcw3. Is is ok if I just add the xd100 to the remaining oil or is it not good to do this. Should I remove all the remaining oil and put oly the xd100. It would be so much easier to just add but if it not good I will get rid of the tcw3 I will remove the rest.

Thanks

David

I'd probably run the TC-W3 down until you get the low oil alarm, and then dump the XD-100 in, just carry it with you when you go out, I think they can interchange with each other, but the less you have in there the better. I know that engine rips through oil, so it shouldn't take too long. Why are you swicthing to full synthetic oil?

I have searched for many days on this forum and talked to people on boatsetup.com and they all stated for my engine you could not go wrong switching to the xd100.

THe phrase "if it ain't broke...don't fix it" comes to mind. ANd I"m not bashing you. I mean it in a good way. :) Your engine has been running perfect. You have not had any problems. Why start messing with the blood of the engine? JMO...leave it alone.

I am a fan of synthetic oils, but are you going to reprogram your system for 100:1?

Just wondered why you didn't choose XD50.

Do I need to reprogram my engine if I switch? I did not know this. How hard is it to do this in my 1998 johnsom faststrike ficht.

David

The XD100 oil is a special oil designed for the new etech engines. Only an ETECH has the option to have the computer re-programmed to accept this oil. The computer will then lean out oil usage. When reprogramming the engine, all other oil must be purged from the system, as it is not be be mixed. While the oil is great for the new ETEC engines, it is expensive-perhaps $ 10 more per gallon. The computer leaning in the ETECHs makes XD100 cost effective. Not so sure it does in all other engines, when you can use the XD50. XD100 can be used in any engine, and it can be mixed directly with other oils with no problem.

If you have been runnning TC-W3 in a '98 FICHT and haven't blown it up you have been very lucky.

Run XD50 or XD100. DFI engines do not have fuel to carry the oil to the lubed surfaces like carbed engines do, and they have more stringent requirements.

You do not want to reprogram a FICHT. Just give it the oil it requires. The ECU will decide how much of it to pump where.

It was a mistake on your part not to tell us at the outset that your engine is a FICHT. That is a very different situation than a carbed engine.

Sorry about not informing you guys it is a ficht engine. When I purchased the boat the owner showed me the oil that he was usig since 98 and it was TCW-3 oil. I hooked the engine to the computer last week and the engine has 139 hrs on it and 70% was ran between 3000 -4000 RPM and only 1% in 5000 to 6000. Now after being on this post I want to switch to xd100 ASAP. Went to Gander Mountain yesterday and they were out and the man stated to me they sell out of this oil as fast as they can put in on the shelves. He is going to hold me some back. They sell if for 29.95.
