Re: switching from VRO to reg. fuel pump

if your fuel side is still working:
VRO conversion w/ pump still working

if the fuel side on your Pump is still working it is very simple. unplug the 2 line harness going to the oil tank, unplug the 3 or 4 wire harness, going to the Vro pump. cut and cap the oil line going into the motor. add oil to fuel tank, mix well, then remove fuel line at top carb, catching gas in a container, pump the fuel line bulb until you get premixed gas to the carb. you can tell as it will change color. put line back on carb, and go boating.

or replacements:
Vro Replacement Fuel Pump Kit "no Oil"
(for Using Oil/gas Pre-mix In Fuel Tank)

#5007422 it is in the $300 range.

$100 range you should be fine with this.

Re: switching from VRO to reg. fuel pump

i looked up that number ,,i see the pump looks much differnt that the VRO ,which i don't care as long as it get's it runining . i can fab any bracket i need so not worried there . it look's like it has a place for three hose's ? the VRO had two for the fuel and two for the oil side . also the VRO had three wire's going to it are these power or alarm wire's or both ? i am not used to boat motors are these pumps electric or are they drivin another way .

i thought that a fuel only pump would have two hose's and wire's for power but maybe i'm way off as i said i'm new to boat motors.

i just want to make sure i get it done right and get back on the water ;)

thanks rick

i had a hard time finding the number 0385784 on I-BOAT maybe i was doing it wrong :(

Re: switching from VRO to reg. fuel pump

All VRO/OMS and conventional lift pumps are mechanical, working off the pulse from one of the cylinders. The wiring is for the VRO/OMS alarm system which is not needed when running pre-mix.

iboats does not sell OEM parts.

You would not want the 0385784 pump either because it is seriously out of date and would only be out of very old stock, superseded several times. Look for the 0438559 or more recent.

ok the 0438559 pump it is . looks to be three hose conections i take it i need the in and out of gas and the other one is a pulse vacume to run it . the wire's are history with going to premix then .

so if i have it right now i'll get the pump and try to let you know when it's running thanks everyone :D

rick,

just curious as to why you want to remove VRO. Is it not working properly or at all?

thanks

Re: switching from VRO to reg. fuel pump

the VRO and VRO2 oil sides, are known to fail at the wrong time. the OMS pump is much more reliable, or the premix pump.

Re: switching from VRO to reg. fuel pump

well the VRO pump that was on it failed all together i took it to the boat mechaic they said it was bad also. it was not pumping at all. after primeing it would run out the prime and die unless you sqeezed the primer again.

i do have a VRO pump that i replaced about 5 years ago because the oil side quit ,

in order to use the old VRO for premix i need to hook up eveything except the oil inlet hose right ? maybe i'll try that before ordering a pump. i'll try that later today

thanks

Re: switching from VRO to reg. fuel pump

Please click the thuimbnail.

Please note that the VRO pumps were much more powerful than the conventional lift pumps. Be sure to reduce fuel obstruction as much as you can to reduce the possibilty of running lean at WOT with the conventional pump.

Single lift pumps were stock on some earlier 140HP crossflow motors but not on V4 loopers.
