Switching mercruiser throttle controls

Hi, has anyone switched the conventional (old model) throttle control with the slighly the newer version? Will it all work the same? Wire connectors and Cable terminals.

From this model (early 90s):



To this (2000s):



The newer model is intalled in a to-be part-out 2005 Baylines BR 190 (5.0 engine)

I would expect the new controls to work mechanically. There should be a listing of compatibility, but if the OD is Alpha, and the new control fits Alpha, I would expect it to work.

The electrical connections could be a bit different.

My boat is Alpha one gen 1, the donor is Alpha one gen 2.

I think it won't work. Newer controls do not have a throttle-only button. I can't cold-start my carburated engine without it.

I didn't. I haven't seen the control in person.
Is the black circle with the Merc logo a button? I've seen a few videos where it's referred to as the cover to the nut that holds the handle in place.

I have a Quicksilver 3000 controller, 2002 model. It's been a while since I researched this but I remember my findings were that if I wanted to replace my cables I would have to move up to the 4000 controller. I think the cables for the 3000 were NLA.

I took it apart a couple of years ago and greased everything up. But some mechanisms are already worn.

Old style cable vs new style cable. Both are widely available.

Got the controls, and it all indicates the only change needed is the trim wires connector. Unlike the old box, the newer one has a 4-pin male square connector near the throttle box, which is useful, as one can remove the box without pulling the cables from the engine compartment.

Finally got to install the remote. I had to widen the cutout behind the panel and remove the original kill switch (mine is on the left of the steering wheel by the Ignition switch) to avoid making unnecessary holes in the panel.

It works great with my 1999 3.0 / 1990 Alpha 1 Gen 1 setup. Smooth as butter. Now I'm worried it's too sensitive/responsive. Gotta get used to it.
